Tired of hearing, "What's for dinner?" Let's Be Chefs can help! Let's Be Chefs is an app-based service that makes it easier to get dinner on the table. We make it easy to find new recipes that you'll like, plan your dinners for the week, grocery shop, and cook. Our goal is to help you with as many of the repetitive tasks having to do with meal planning and cooking as possible. Be sure to rate the recipes as you cook them so that we can learn your preferences and recommend the best possible meals for you.
Every week, we'll give you a new menu through the app. We use (<buzzword>) advanced machine learning algorithms (</buzzword>) to predict what kind of meals you and your family will enjoy. We want to make sure you have some variety in your meals, however, we know you don't want to cook new meals every night (at least we don't). So, in your weekly menu, you'll see new meals we think you'll like, as well as recipes you've seen before and rated highly (be sure to rate as many recipes as possible so that we can learn your preferences and recommend meals for you). Once you receive your menu, you can quickly add all the meals you intend to make to your grocery list. Set the time you want to eat and we'll send you reminders when it's time to start cooking. The entire process of planning your meals for a week could take as little as 2 minutes.
Yes! After you sign up, you'll have the opportunity to select your dietary preferences and your recipes will reflect your choices. You can change your dietary preferences from the settings page at any time. If you don't see your preference/restriction listed, let us know by submitting a request (at the bottom of the form); we'll do our best to accommodate your preferences in the future.
We figure you'll use Let's Be Chefs to cook 2-4 times a week and then fill in the rest with your family's favorite recipes, eating out, and/or leftovers.
We strive for a fairly diverse array of recipes, but they all need to fall into the category of "normal." My two year old tries every meal and if he won't eat it, it doesn't get added to the service. These meals have been tested by many families and get rave reviews from adults as well as children. The meals also need to be easy to make - we know you're probably not a professional chef, but we want you to be able to prepare meals that taste as if you are! The meals are generally well-balanced and nutritious, but this isn't a health food service (those don't pass the two year old test...). You should expect tasty and delicious home cooking!
No, we want to give you the flexibility to alter the recipes as you see fit. Want steamed broccoli instead of sautéed veggies? Instead of having veggies that you won't use, just buy broccoli. What if you already have an onion that you'd like to use up? It would be silly for us to send you another. Preference on organic vs. non-organic produce? Pick whatever you want! Want to make enough food to have leftovers? Shop according to your needs!
Basically, you'll have less waste, you can buy exactly what you want, and your wallet will be happier. Winning.
We offer a level of personalization that we've never seen with any other meal planning service. Each week, we send you a menu that is completely customized to you - we learn your preferences based on how you've rated other meals and send you recipes that we think you'll enjoy. With many other services, you choose a plan (vegetarian, gluten-free, no seafood, etc.), but you receive the same meals as every other customer with that plan - the menu is not tailored to you at all.
In addition to providing personalized menus, we help you with every aspect of getting dinner on the table, including meal scheduling, grocery shopping, selecting recipes, and more.
Yes, just click on the recipe and give it a 5-star rating (click the white stars at the top of the recipe page). Any recipes you rate 5-stars will be automatically added to your favorites list. To swap a recipe with one of your favorites, go to the weekly menu page and click the "swap" button (looks like a refresh icon) at the bottom left of the recipe card that you'd like to replace. Select the recipe that you'd like to cook and it will be switched in. Note: if a recipe is already on your menu, it won't show up in the favorites list.
For the most part, we use pretty normal ingredients. There are a few things we use often that you might not be used to (e.g. yogurt butter and coconut oil), but we use these because they are healthier than their "normal" counterparts. We'll use these ingredients a lot though, so they won't go to waste, even if you don't use them on your own. :)
Our recipes are fairly simple and use relatively few ingredients. While our first priority is to give you recipes that you'll love, we also strive to give you a weekly menu that has recipes with some common ingredients. That way, your grocery list remains reasonable and you can use that leftover 1/2 onion in another meal.
Not particularly. We aren't claiming to be a "dinner for under $5" type of service, but we try to be wallet friendly. No filet mignon here.
First off, that's not a question. However, the meal prep times are only approximate and will vary from person to person. We recommend following the first two instructions on every recipe ("read all instructions" and "get ingredients out"), as we've found that that can make things go much more smoothly.
We assume that you have a microwave, stove or cook top, oven, rice cooker, and blender.
The week is defined as Sunday to Saturday. A week's menu will be available through the following Friday, and is removed on Saturday. Menus for the next week are generated on Wednesday.
We generate new menus once a week on Wednesday mornings, so any change in the number of meals will take effect the next time menus are generated. All other settings take effect immediately.
No, your favorites list will remain the same, so beware of any potential allergen issues. If you'd like to remove a recipe from your favorites, simply change the rating from 5-stars (all 5-star recipes saved to your favorites).
Our app currently supports most modern iOS and Android phones and tablets.
